The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia Inaugural Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family

Each year the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia partners with the Clarke County School District to make the Thanksgiving Holiday a little bit brighter for approximately 300 families. On the Saturday before Thanksgiving, turkey boxes with all the trimmings are given out to these previously identified families.  Without a doubt, each year about 50 families forgo their holiday celebration because they are unable to pick up their turkey box from the Food Bank.

This year that will all change.  Plans are currently underway for our Inaugural Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family, and we need your help to make this a success!

Any individual, family, or group can adopt a minimum of 1 or a maximum of 5 families and agree to deliver these turkey boxes with all the trimmings to the families that have been identified by the school district as unable to make it to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia to pick up their Thanksgiving box.

This years Adopt-A-Family will take place on Saturday November 19, 2011. Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Food Bank between 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. to pick up the boxes and the family information sheet. Once the volunteer has picked up the box and family information sheet they are free to immediately deliver the box to the family. It is that simple!

To Volunteer for either of these events please contact our volunteer coordinators Jim Pope or Amy Heesacker e-mail at volunteer@foodbanknega.org or call 706-354-8191.

    Why Volunteer?

Without the help of volunteers, the hungry in Northeast Georgia would suffer. Volunteering at the Food Bank means that you spend time helping many others who are not able to show their appreciation. People return home from the food bank thinking about the hundreds or thousands of needy folks they helped. Where else can you impact so many lives?

Volunteers know they help our community out of the goodness of their hearts expecting nothing in return. This is a lasting, positive feeling.
