Empty Bowl Luncheon

empty bowlThe History of the Empty Bowl Concept

Empty Bowl Luncheons are held by Food Banks across the country.  Designed to raise awareness about the problem of hunger in our nation and as well as in our local communities, these luncheons typically offer a simple fare of soup and sandwiches and often feature the work of local artists who have donated works themed around the Empty Bowl Concept.

We Need You!

empty bowlsIf you are an local artist, please consider donating a bowl (ceramic, wooden, metal, painting of..., etc.) for our Empty Bowl Auction.  We will provide you with a receipt for your donation and, if you choose, we will pay you a portion of the proceeds of your auctioned item.  Thank you for your support.

About the 10th Annual Event

silent auctionThe 10th annual Empty Bowl Luncheon and Silent Auction will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. The event is held each year to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in our community. Central to the event is the idea of a simple lunch of soup and sandwich as well as the Empty bowl. Area artists and potters give some of their finest work to the silent auction each year.  This year’s event will feature Keynote speaker Supreme Court Justice, Robert Benham. All proceeds from the event go directly to providing food to members of our community who are in need of assistance.
